One of our favorite gyms in Minneapolis, Alchemy, inspired this coffee protein drink. We order it pretty much after every workout and it’s so yummy and so easy to make. All you need are three ingredients —> cold brew (or strong coffee) + milk + protein powder.

“Love this and you! Such a great way to get your caffeine and protein simultaneously. Definitely plan to check out Aloha-I’ve been looking for a new and clean protein! Thanks lady!” – Jamie
We love making this coffee protein drink after a morning workout because you get your caffeine and protein all in one. Most days I eat breakfast before my workout, so something light, refreshing, and caffeine-amped is what I’m craving after my workout.
We’ve been obsessed with this protein drink since we first posted this recipe in 2017 and it seriously never gets old. The beauty of this cold brew protein drink is takes minutes to make and is extremely delicious.
- Cold brew: We used cold brew concentrate for this recipe. It adds a rich coffee flavor that we love! If you can’t find this product, normal cold brew or chilled strong coffee will work too.
- Almond milk: Provides a creamy almond milk base for our coffee protein drink. We used unsweetened almond milk, but you could use sweetened if you like.
- Protein powder: We used Aloha Vanilla, which is a plant-based protein powder, but we’ve also made it with whey protein powder and it works just fine! You can also use collagen peptides in place of protein powder.

- Sweetener: If you want to up the sweetness a bit try our honey simple syrup or classic simple syrup.
- Milk: If you’re not a fan of almond milk or don’t care about being dairy-free, no worries. You can swap out the almond milk for soy milk, coconut milk, oat milk, or dairy milk.
- Protein powder: Feel free to play around with different flavors of protein. We used vanilla, but chocolate protein powder or even unflavored protein powder would work.
- Smoothie: To make a coffee protein smoothie – you can blend it with some frozen bananas or ice. Check out how we freeze bananas.

Nope! You can use your favorite brand of cold brew, plain old coffee, or espresso if you like! You can even make your own cold brew at home if you want.
